Arrivals..There Goes the Neighborhood.

When people of different races come together to form a community, it can get a bit messy. The neighborhoods that are the most popular and well-known in Chicago usually consist of one race. This is because Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in the US. There is Pilsen, made up of mostly Mexicans; Hyde Park is mainly African-American, etc.
Because of this, I do not have a credible knowledge of when races come together to live among each other. All I can say is what I can surmise about things I have seen or read. Basically, I think it is the fact that every single person is already different. We are so different, and that is something we are already uneasy about. Therefore, we are comfortable to a point with people of our own race because it is something we can say we have in common with them. When other races bombard a peaceful group of people, walls go up and things get pretty messy.
A lot of conflicts in history started over different races attempting to live in harmony. I personally think we are doing okay in America right now. It could be way better, but at least we are not killing each other and stuff, right? There is always an upside to everything.

  1. Do you think that the reason people get uneasy when another culture starts moving into the neighborhood is because the neighborhood starts to change? if one area is predominantly one culture it tends to have businesses and events that have to do with that culture, and when another group starts moving in, some of those things can change.

  2. We Americans are killing each other over ethnicity. Gangs in chicago kill people just because they are a different race.

  3. Gangs in chicago are generally don't differ too much in race.... o.o

Anyways, I totes agree on how you said chicago is a segregated city, the various neighborhoods are almost unofficial ghettos, though I think this is slowly changing.
